Vision
Financial Stability & Long-Term Planning
The very first priority for OEA leadership must be establishing medium and long-range plans for the financial stability of the organization. We must prioritize the needs of rank & file members and communicate the value of membership to all represented groups while actively seeking ways to broaden our coalition of Oregon educators.
Public Education Shaped by Public Educators
As recently as 2019, Oregon’s educators were leading the conversation about what our students need. Yet now, as we emerge from the pandemic crisis, public educators are treated with disdain by antagonists and ignored by former partners. We need to raise our voice and reclaim our seat at the policy and planning tables. We need to show what we know—what we’ve learned from our time spent in the pandemic trenches. Universal WiFi anyone?
Healthy, Living-wage Careers for Oregon Educators
Across Oregon, access to professional advancement, affordable housing, and sustainable full-time employment in public education varies widely. No matter where a school district is, no matter how large or small, students deserve fully-licensed teachers, who can afford to live in the areas where they work. Classified and part-time employees deserve opportunities for professional growth and full-time employment regardless of whether they work for a community college, ESD, school district, or Head Start.
